LMA
Residential Summer School - an entertaining, rioutous
and eternally memorable week of music, dance, drama,
and madness! The LMA Residential Summer School was launched
in 1996 to give 9 - 18
year olds the opportunity to experience the
many aspects of life on, off, and behind the stage -
and it's still going strong! Come along and celebrate
our 10th Year Anniversary!
Such
was the success of the Residential Summer School that
in 2003 the first LMA
Adult Summer School [18+] was launched.
In 2007 LMA Summer School moved to a NEW
venue.
Each
week is themed, the subject being completely non-Performing-Arts-related
(previous years' themes include: PIGS, cheese, bugs
& fish). Returning Course members are always intrigued
as to the new year's theme, & ready to throw themselves
into the stunning variety of activities which are laid
on in addition to casual swimming/tennis sessions.
There is a minimum of 2 hours free time daily, with
extra mad-cap events such as barn/line-dancing, in-house
cabaret, & the indescribable team games (ever played
Cauliflower Cheese Football, Nestball, Flamingo Croquet
or been "curling" with Cheese Pasties?)
The emphasis during the week is on team-work, and on
students being supportive of one another..after all,
no one wants to pay to go away for a week & be lonely
or miserable. Staff are approachable, helpful, insane
& hard-working, and return year after year to witness
the tremendous rewards reaped by all who spend time
together on this unique summer school.

Courses or the ADULTS
Courses.
Martial
Arts
Many of you will be wondering about the inclusion
of Martial Arts in a Jazz / Music Theatre Summer School
We believe in the benefits of training in martial arts:
benefits such as improved health, better co-ordination,
discipline and improved concentration, all of which
directly benefit those in the performing side of music
and theatre. For this reason we decided to start most
days with a light training in the ancient art of Karate,
taken by Nick J. Pamment.
(Those of you who attended previous courses will remember
it well!)
The Following information applies to the 9-18 YRS
Summer School (or maybe to particularly homesick
adults! - including the tutors!! LOL)
Pastoral
Care
With
the wide age-range of youngsters who come to us looking
for a fun, informative week, we have devised various
systems of individual care and extra-curricular activity
in order that course members should have maximum opportunity
to meet others, to spend time informally with the tutors,
and to have time to rest (!).
Most of the course tutors are on-site overnight, & a
minimum of three course tutors are also qualified first-aiders.
Extra staff are also present at bed-times, to help particularly
with the younger members who may not have spent much
time away from home. Youngsters may sometimes choose
to spend a night at home mid-week (this doesn't alter
the course fee, but is helpful as a back-up for sleepless
nights or home-sickness).
Cigarettes & alcohol are not allowed.
Past
LMA members have said:
"L.M.A. is the King of all courses!!" (Nick
Lockyer, aged nine)
"Its a week where you can be totally yourself,
& no one gives a stuff!" (One of the Parkington
brothers who couldnt be kept away, aged 13,14,15
& 16)
"PLEASE let me come back next year!!!!!!!!!"
(Mark Underwood, aged 14 21!!)
"I shall be back until I have an LMA t-shirt for
each day of the week..."(Inga Marsden)
"--???~~!!!***...???###!!!!!!" (Steve Andrews,
Acting tutor, on his first day at LMA)
