How
it all started : In 1996 the
first week-long
“Lights, Music, Action!” Summer School took place
and
proved to be so popular we’ve never looked back. The course
has
since expanded to offer the chance to study the many areas of
performing arts.
The week long LMA course gives students the chance to experience all
aspects of Performing Arts. Whether they have been performing since the
year dot, or have never set foot on the stage LMA offers an exciting,
friendly environment in which creative and performing spirits come
alive.
The Workshops :
Students do not have to attend LMA Stage School to take part. LMA aims to increase student's confidence whilst learning about many different aspects of the performing arts. The students will work towards a performance which parents will be invited to watch on the last day.
Workshops will be run covering Musical Theatre, Acting and Dance. Whilst there is not a separate band element this year, students who play an instrument might have the opportunity to perform in one or more of the projects: if you are interested please make LMA / Phil aware of this in advance.
The traditional 'team' element of the summer school week will be ever present, so be prepared for some team games!
Aim
of the course : This course sets
out to give young
people the opportunity to explore their artistic potential within an
enthusiastic and disciplined environment. They will be given the chance
to perform to each other and in public, and to investigate the elements
of backstage work and preparation, which go toward putting together an
end-of-course Show Case. The Five main elements, Musical Theatre,
Acting, Dance, Band and Technical will produce a final performance of
selected material studied during the course and an original production.
All course members are given the opportunity to experience the
workshops held in acting, puppetry, composition, musical theatre,
physical theatre, dance, sound/lighting technology, improvisation,
stage fighting and percussion – thereby broadening their
horizons
and allowing them to mingle with other course members.
