Regular workshops will be set up for those who wish to study more specialised aspects of stage-work. These will cover clowning, stage-fighting, non-traditional dance, theatrical make-up and masks/props, costume design, set-design, lighting, sound, visuals and more. At appropriate times of the year, audition technique workshops will be held to help those interested in applying for further education or professional work.

You, the Singer.
It is essential for all singers to be able to use their voices safely; it is rewarding to find the voice quality and style of singing which you enjoy the most. Classes cover technical warm-ups, and issues such as breath control, studying lyrics, expanding your range and covering repertoire in the class you have chosen. Body-awareness and presentation are important: tailor-made choreography and microphone technique are also incorporated where appropriate. It is not necessary to be able to read music in order to benefit from these classes.
Vocal classes on offer:
"Popstars" – for the younger wannabe band singers or solo vocalists; "Soul Divas" for the older students. Performers cover a whole range of popular songs working individually and in groups to develop the voice safely and learn the basics of harmony-singing.
"Broadway" – for the Musical-lovers. This acting / singing / dancing class explores a variety of musicals from all eras, giving a broad understanding of plots, characters, dance-styles, chorus and solo-work.
"Divas" – for classical artistes. Aimed at the 16+ age-range (although exceptions can be made!) this class covers classical genres such as Italian / French song, opera and oratorio….. often with a wacky, contemporary twist.
The Voice Squad : Cadets up to @ 13 years, Seniors to @ 21, and Adults ad infinitum.
"Live Ade" – a smaller adult group, singing varied repertoire incorporating solos and backing vocals, often with a small live band. Previous enterprises include a "Commitments Tribute Night", performed in conjunction with the "Ella Mae Toe-Tappers."

You, the Actor - "Footlights"
The "Footlights" part of the School includes the opportunity to study acting skills such as voice projection, accents, body awareness, character study, team-work. Actors are involved in the exploration of a number of different styles, from traditional classics such as Greek tragedy and Shakespeare, to favourite contemporary comedy such as The Fast Show, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and with a strong emphasis on acquiring confidence through improvisation. Students are put through their paces in a range of different performance media: e.g. radio and video recordings as well as more traditional stage work. Though many will want just to act, there is also the opportunity to learn in class how to direct and stage-manage, and to assist in a junior capacity on Production Teams for some of the larger shows.

You, the Musician – the "Ella Mae Toe-Tappers"
The LMA Stage Band incorporates musicians of all ages / standards. It is specially tailored to allow players to explore band music from R & B to Latin and swing, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Improvisation is also encouraged at various levels, and singers brought in from time to time, to extend the range of styles available.

You, the Dancer - "Footloose"
It may seem unusual that "Lights, Music, Action!" is not setting out to run standard ballet, tap and modern classes: we feel that there are enough established dance schools in the region to cover this type of work. "Footloose" is a new, freestyle class, covering a range of genres, such as Theatre Dance, Contemporary Movement and Street Dance. Students are divided by age and previous experience, and classes paced accordingly. Advanced students are encouraged to develop skills as choreographers, and take on board extra skills such as Laban notation. Supporting Dance studies are also covered as appropriate to complement the vocal classes. More unusual dance forms (salsa, hip-hop, swing, lindy-hop) will be offered in one-off workshops, or courses where there is popular demand.
